The Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen, located directly on the shores of Lake Constance, houses the world's largest collection on the history of airship aviation. In the listed former harbour station from 1933, over 4,000 square meters of exhibition space feature large technical objects, historical exhibits, and a walk-in reconstruction of the airship LZ 129 Hindenburg.

LTS Licht & Leuchten GmbH carried out the lighting renovation of the museum, replacing the old fluorescent tubes with energy-saving LED lights. The easily adaptable Ala light strip system allowed the renovation to be carried out during ongoing museum operations without altering the existing ceiling structure.

Challenges of the Lighting Renovation: Heritage Protection Meets Modernity

The renovation of the existing lighting in the Zeppelin Museum posed particular challenges: the new lighting had to be integrated and adapted to the existing Siemens support rail profile without altering the appearance of the historical light ceiling. Additionally, the renovation needed to meet the BEG funding criteria for energy-efficient measures.

The goal was to create efficient and sustainable lighting that enhances the visual experience of visitors while ensuring the preservation of the artworks. Through precise planning and implementation, optimal lighting was achieved, presenting the pioneering achievements of Ferdinand von Zeppelin in the best possible light.

Innovative LTS Products in Use: Efficient and Sustainable

The Ala light strip system from LTS played a central role in the renovation. The Ala lights, mounted on the existing support rails, offer excellent efficiency of over 140 lm/W and provide uniform illumination without visible LED light points. The frosted glass elements diffuse the light softly, creating the illusion of daylight. The simple "Twist&Go" installation of the Ala lights enabled a seamless retrofit during ongoing museum operations. Additionally, the Ala lights offer flexible colour and control options, allowing dynamic adjustments for various events and needs. LTS's modern LED technology not only contributes to energy efficiency but also creates pleasant lighting that dramatically showcases the history of aviation.

An easy retrofit of the light inserts is guaranteed, as the Ala from LTS can be adapted to all standard light strip systems.
